The Presidency has criticised Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, accusing him of engaging in “irresponsible politics” and failing to address pressing issues in his state.
In a statement released yesterday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the Presidency reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s focus on national development and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
According to the statement, the Tinubu administration prioritises collaboration with sub-nationals and key stakeholders on issues that impact Nigerians, rather than engaging in personality politics.
Dare noted that President Tinubu, having secured a national mandate, remains committed to fulfilling his promises and will not be swayed by “pseudo-activists and later-day crusaders.”
The statement further highlighted Tinubu’s belief in institutional processes, citing his stance on the ongoing Tax Reform Bills. It said the President encouraged individuals and groups with concerns about the bills to engage through the legislative process, describing attempts to derail the process as undemocratic and self-serving.
Addressing recent comments by Mohammed, the statement challenged his leadership in Bauchi State, pointing to the state’s high poverty levels despite increased resources at the governor’s disposal. It urged him to focus on improving the lives of Bauchi residents rather than using President Tinubu to bolster his “vanishing image.”
Dare called on Mohammed to answer questions about his governance, including efforts to alleviate poverty and improve living standards in his state. “Just as President Tinubu has a duty to all Nigerians, Governor Bala has a greater responsibility to the people of Bauchi State,” the statement noted.
The Presidency reiterated Tinubu’s commitment to revamping the economy, stating that Nigerians are beginning to experience the impact of his reforms, with better outcomes expected in the coming weeks and months.
“Ambition is made of sterner stuff,” the statement concluded, urging Mohammed to prioritise governance over political theatrics
