John Mara upset many when he decided to retain head coach Brian Daboll and General Manager Joe Schoen after the disastrous end to yet another season. However, he didn’t seem to let them off the hook so easily, sending them stern warnings while announcing the news to fans.
Last Sunday, the Giants posted the franchise-worst ten-game losing streak after a humiliating 20-13 loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. As the Giants concluded the season at a 3-14 record, which has projected them favorite to land the No. 1 pick next season, owner Mara announced about continuing another season with Daboll and Schoen.
While addressing the media on Monday, the Giants President shared some highlights of his discussion with the team’s head coach and General Manager. They revealed that they had a candid conversation about the team’s main priority for next season, especially since they have a higher or No. 1 draft pick to use to their advantage.
That’s obviously the No. 1 issue for us going into this offseason, is to find our quarterback of the future. Whether that be via the draft or acquiring a veteran, it’s going to be up to them to decide, ultimately. It better not take too long because I’ve just about run out of patience.

From Mara’s statements, it is evident that the 70-year-old president has not guaranteed the future of Daboll and Schoen. This implies that if they fail to perform next season, it could signal the end of their tenure with New York, despite the fact that they still have two years remaining in their contract.

After the conclusion of the devastating 2024 campaign, the Giants’ head coach and General Manager had long hours of conversation with the owner Mara, where they explained where things went wrong and how they plan to execute things differently next season. Though Mara has given them just one more chance in 2025, he believes it’s in the team’s best interest.
I think they’re the right two guys to lead us going forward. Believe me, that is not going to be the most popular decision in Giants land, but we believe it’s the right decision for us going forward.
John Mara added
Additionally, he also emphasized that Daboll won the Coach of the Year award in 2022 and Schoen’s draft selection is “outstanding.” They might have posted one of the worst seasons in franchise history, but the owner has a firm belief that they have the capability to lead the team to one of its best as well.
