Brace yourself for heavy rain and thunderstorms

Residents of Pretoria should prepare for severe weather as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms expected this afternoon, continuing into the weekend.

SAWS forecaster Samkelisiwe Thwala said residents may experience heavy downpours, isolated strong winds and significant amounts of small hail.

She said that Saturday will bring a 30% chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Thwala stated that the weather will remain unsettled, with scattered showers anticipated on Sunday, carrying a 60% chance of rain.

“Saturday will have a low of 19°C and a high of 29°C, while Sunday’s temperatures will range from 20°C to 28°C.”

She added that Monday will see a 19°C minimum and 28°C maximum.

“Monday is forecasted to see even more significant rainfall, with an 80% chance of widespread showers and thundershowers throughout the day.”
