Tshwane welcomes 35 Christmas babies

Tshwane welcomed 35 newborns across several public health facilities in the Metro this Christmas Day.

This was announced during the provincial MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko’s visit to the Tembisa Provincial Tertiary Hospital on December 25.

She was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza and the City of Ekurhuleni Mayor, Cllr Nkosindiphile Xhakaza.

“Congratulations to all the families. We would also like to encourage parents to ensure that their bundles of joy are immunised at specified dates set out on the road to health care booklet to protect them against diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, hepatitis, measles and meningitis. Immunisation is free at all public clinics and community healthcare centres in the province,” said Nkomo-Ralehoko.

The metro’s recorded Christmas-day births for 2024 are as follows:

– Steve Biko Academic Hospital: 5 (3 males, 2 females)
– Dr George Mukhari Hospital: 8 (7 males, 1 female)
– Kalafong Hospital: 8 (3 males, 5 females)
– Tshwane District Hospital: 2 females
– Mamelodi Hospital: 7 (5 males, 2 females)
– Pretoria West Hospital: 5 (2 males, 3 females)

Deputy Minister Nzuza also urged families to ensure that their newborns are registered with the Department of Home Affairs immediately after birth through their offices across all provincial public hospitals.

“The entry into the national population register is through birth registration, without it, those children cannot fully access services. Through our collaboration with the Department of Health, we have made it easier for parents to register their children by opening Home Affairs offices within health facilities,” Nzuza said.

The recorded numbers are from 00:00 to noon. The final update will be released on December 26 encompassing all 24-hour clinics.
