A former private educational institution teacher (41) from Valhalla in Centurion appeared at the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Tuesday on charges of sexual grooming and child pornography.
The 41-year-old was arrested on Friday, December 13, following an investigation by the South African Police and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
The man cannot be identified until he pleads.
The case has been postponed to Tuesday, December 24, when the suspect can proceed with a possible bail application.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana, the man is facing three counts of exposing pornography to children and four counts of sexual grooming of two 13-year-old boy learners and one 15-year-old at the school.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk, they have identified three victims thus far, and a further six victims are yet to be traced.
Mahanjana said in August, the accused allegedly contacted the three learners from the school, sent them nude pictures of himself, and requested them to send theirs in exchange.
“After one of the victims sent his picture to the accused, he proceeded to call the victim through video call where he demonstrated himself inserting his penis into a bottle.”
She said one of the victims reported the matter to a school teacher, who requested that they bring their phones to school for observation.
“The parents of the victims were informed about the incident by the school and a case was opened against the accused in August,” Mahanjana said.
She added that after the SAPS investigations, the accused was arrested at his residence on December 13.
“In court, the matter was postponed to December 24, for a possible bail application and the accused is remanded in custody.”
The police said during the arrest, the teams seized various electronic devices suspected of containing sexual child abuse images and videos, commonly known as child pornography.
