Ward councillors across Centurion have taken a moment to reflect on the year gone by, celebrating the achievements of their communities while sharing heartfelt wishes for the upcoming holidays.
Ward 69 councillor Cindy Billson emphasised the importance of reflection during this time of year.
She said 2024 brought its fair share of challenges when the weight of uncertainty and difficulty tested the community’s strength.
“Yet, amid these trials, we’ve witnessed the incredible resilience, strength, and unity that define our Ward 69 family.”
Billson said collective efforts by the community saw new projects come to life, infrastructure restored, and connections strengthened.
She said through acts of kindness, shared responsibility, and unwavering hope, residents have continued to build a community rooted in care and progress.
“This year has been a testament to the power of standing together, learning from setbacks, and celebrating the victories, no matter how big or small,” she said.
“As we step into the festive season, let us carry forward the spirit of mutual support and compassion. Let us continue to be the kind of community that uplifts one another, knowing that together we can overcome any obstacle and achieve so much more.”
Billson thanked residents for their contributions, patience, and determination to make Ward 69 a better place for all.
“May this festive season bring you peace, joy, and renewed hope for the year ahead.”
In Ward 70, councillor Marika Kruger-Muller shared similar sentiments and reminded residents that “giving is not just about making a donation. It’s about making a difference.”
She extended warm wishes for a blessed Christmas season and safe travels to all.
Ward 66 councillor Ina Strijdom shared her hopes for peace, love, and happiness for residents as they gather with loved ones this festive season.
“May you have a joyful Christmas and New Year,” she said.
Strijdom also encouraged residents to travel safely during the festive period.
Councillor David Farquharson from Ward 57 wished residents a “powered and peaceful December”. He hoped that the New Year brings health, wealth, and happiness to all.
Ward 64 councillor Alta De Kock highlighted the importance of community care during the holidays.
She urged residents to look after one another and secure their homes, especially when away.
“This is a time for everyone to acknowledge each other and spread goodwill and peace,” she said.
“If you’re planning on going away, make sure there is someone to look after your property.
“Also make sure all the lights are working at night and inform your neighbours as well if you plan to leave so that they can also keep an eye out for you.”
De Kock said all community groups play an important role during this time so that people can look after each other.
She said each resident must make sure they have someone that they inform of their whereabouts at all times in case something happens to them.
“Faulty streetlights in the ward are still a major concern, so residents should make sure that they are on the lookout when travelling at night and should always try to stay safe.”
De Kock thanked all the community policing forums (CPFs) and security companies in Centurion for their ongoing commitment to safety and dealing with crimes in the area.
Ward 78 councillor Peter Sutton shared a message of togetherness, reminding residents of the true meaning of the festive season.
“I want us all to be reminded that this festive season is a time of giving and lending a helping hand,” he said.
He expressed the hope that everyone would find joy in giving and helping those around them.
“From my family to yours, we wish you all a blessed, safe, and happy festive season,” said Sutton.
Daniella Le Roux of the Lyttelton CPF expressed gratitude for residents’ support over the years.
“We as the Lyttelton CPF would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks for residents’ continued support over the past years.
“Together, we have made great strides, and we believe that by working hand in hand, we can accomplish so much more.”
Le Roux said this was the time where everyone needed to stand united in the fight against crime within their communities.
“Your involvement, your vigilance, and your commitment are key to making Lyttelton a safer place for all of us.
“We also call on our neighbours to be our eyes and ears.”
She said residents should ensure that they stay alert at all times and report suspicious activity to help protect those around them.
“Whether it’s a small concern or a larger issue, together we can make a difference,” added Le Roux.
“We are here to support you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to us whenever you need assistance.”
