Rich Homie Quan’s passing has left fans heartbroken. TMZ confirmed his death on September 5, according to The Shade Room. RHQ, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar, died at 34, though his cause of death remains unconfirmed.

The news of his passing was met with an outpour of love from several celebrity friends like Boosie, Quavo, Jacquees, GloRilla, Lil Duval, and Playboi Carti.

RHQ’s impact on music will always stand out, with many of his tracks still resonating today! His era from the mid-2010s just hit different. His fans would certainly agree that you just had to be there to experience it.

Rich Homie Quan Took Over The Mid-2010s

Quan took over the mid-2010s with his music, which is still a go-to for special occasions and events to this day! Though he began his career in 2011, his 2013 hit ‘Type of Way’ truly launched him into the spotlight. The track brought RHQ mainstream success, reaching number 50 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2014, the emcee took over the music scene with ‘Lifestyle,’ a track by Rich Gang that also featured him and Young Thug. The record gained popularity when it dropped and recently trended online after being played in court during Thugger’s YSL Rico trial.

In 2015, Rich Homie Quan climbed even higher with his hit single ‘Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).’

The Rapper Represented ATL & Dabbled In Sports Before Starting His Music Career

RHQ grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Before launching his rape career, he spent four years playing baseball at Ronald McNair Sr. High School in Atlanta.

According to the  Sacramento Bee, Lamar played varsity baseball as a freshman, excelling as a center fielder and leadoff hitter. He even earned a scholarship to attend Fort Valley State University, an HBCU.

Rich Homie Quan Launched His Own Record Label

In 2022, VIBE reported that the ‘Walk Thru’ hitmaker launched his new own independent record label, Rich Homie Entertainment, partnering with industry veteran Troy Carter and Venice Music. At the time, the emcee said the move had been a decade in the making, allowing him to apply the knowledge he gained over the years.

“For my last 10 years in the game, I have learned independence is the lane for me,” he reportedly said at the time. “I am blessed to meet Troy and his team and I’ve been impressed with their work to help RHQ Ent excel am grateful to God for this alignment…”

He Collaborated With Birdman & Other Rap Heavy Hitters

Throughout his career, Rich Homie Quan enjoyed solo success and built a strong musical partnership with Young Thug.

Per Variety, both artists were key members of the Birdman-formed group Rich Gang.

In addition to working with Birdman, RHQ collaborated with other rappers such as 2 Chainz, Young Jeezy, and Gucci Mane.

In a 2022 interview with REVOLT, Rich Homie Quan revealed that he regrets releasing his song ‘Flex’ because he lacked creative control. During the interview, he also discussed his biggest regret and explained how he navigates life without letting it weigh him down.

“With everything I’m doing, I’m thinking about it before I do it. You know what I’m saying… So it’s different when you thinking about something before you do it.” RHQ stated.
