Tyreek Hill’s recent detainment in Miami ahead of the season opener has sparked intense reaction all over the internet. It has reflected the underlying racism in America after the police officers handcuffed the star receiver by forcing him on the ground.
Among the many addressing the issue, Stephen A. Smith particularly condemned the action of Miami police, and in the recent edition of ‘The Stephen A. Smith Show,’ he compared it to the arrest of prominent golfer Scottie Scheffler. The ESPN analyst asked why Hill wasn’t treated the same way as Scheffler when he was arrested.
Let’s keep in mind that Scottie Scheffler– when he was arrested in Kentucky. Months ago in May, if I remember correctly. When that happened, he was placed in handcuffs and booked. So, let’s understand this is not a story about the handcuffs. This is not a story about Tyreek Hill being detained. It’s how he was detained. That’s the story. In his argument, Smith asked the very basic questions regarding the detainment of the eight-time Pro Bowler, saying why there was a need for four to five officers to hold one single man. He also highlighted how after he was handcuffed behind his back and made to stand up, another officer came and forced him to sit down. Being a black man himself, Smith understands what Hill must have felt when he was forced to face down on the ground on such a hot day in Florida as it was on Sunday.
Miami police caught on bodycam using excessive force on Tyreek Hill
Another update has been discovered from the incident after bodycam footage of one of the police officers went viral on the internet. In the video, police can be clearly seen dragging the star receiver out of his car and throwing him on the ground. After handcuffing him from behind, they ask him to sit down.
Hill even told the officers to “slow down” as he just went through knee surgery but his request was dismissed entirely and another officer came, who grabbed his neck to forcibly make him sit down. They also didn’t believe the star wideout’s surgery and taunted him afterward.
The Miami Dolphins– standing by the side of their receiver, demanded strict action against the police officers involved in the incident Hill’s legal team as well as taking all the measures to ensure the officers are held accountable for their excessive behaviour.
