“Insane!!!” Shohei Ohtani’s 50-50 milestone has sporting legends in awe of $700 million star

Thursday wrote another history in Major League Baseball as Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani went 50-50 in a single season with an additional 3 home runs and 2 stolen bases to seal their game 20-4 against the Miami Marlins. Fans and sports legends on social media came together to congratulate him on his record-breaking performance.

NFL star Patrick Mahomes took to X commenting, “Insane!!!”, while NBA legend LeBron James penned, “This guy is unreal!!!! Wowzers🙌🙌🙌🙌”. However, they were not the only stars who congratulated Ohtani.

Former MLB player and broadcaster Rick Monday commented Shohei Ohtani’s game was “the single greatest game he’s witnessed by a player considering everything attached to it.” Magic Johnson noted, 

On behalf of the @Dodgers Ownership Group, I want to congratulate Shohei on being the 1st in MLB History to have a 50/50 season! Dodger Fans, we got a chance to be a part of MLB history!

Former baseball player Shawn Green also took to X penning,

What an absolutely amazing accomplishment. You’re the greatest player who has ever lived and I’m honored to be mentioned in the same sentence as you, at least for this week. Keep it going buddy.

Several more commented and celebrated Ohtani’s historic moment including rivals and friends from MLB. The most celebrated event was held on the field right after Ohtani hit the mark. The cheers and claps calling him “M-V-P” revibrated throughout the stadium.

On Thursday, Shohei Ohtani became the first major league player with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season. He not only broke an MLB record, but added more celebratory performance to it by stealing 2 bases, and 3 homers to top it off.

Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas said he almost “cried” as he got to be part of the team and behind-the-curtain celebrations. He expressed how he saw Ohtani struggle and how he kept getting better at reaching the stage he’s currently standing on.

Ohtani also finished 6-for-6 with 10 RBIs, something “I’m going to cherish for a very long time.” He expressed that he couldn’t believe what just happened and was in a daze as he completed his 51st round around the bases. 

To be honest, I’m the one probably most surprised. I have no idea where this came from, but I’m glad that it was going well today.

His teammate Mookie Betts also complimented the $700 million star saying, 

There’s nothing you really can say because there’s nothing anybody can do about it,” teammate and former MVP Mookie Betts said. “He’s just too good.

Manager Dave Roberts also had high praise for his team’s superstar. He noted that it’s rare to see someone make an MLB record, especially considering how long this game is being played. “He’s one of one,” he added.
