Up to three persons were reportedly killed at Oye Agu Market, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra state, Wednesday, when a commercial Sienna bus heading to Onitsha ran into market following a faulty brake.
Blueprint gathered that those killed as a result of the incident were mostly petty traders hawking or displaying their wares by the road side, even as others got wounded while baskets of tomatoes and other edibles were scattered on the ground as people scampered for safety.
According to an eyewitness identified as Uche Osegbo, the incident which occurred around 9am was allegedly caused because the driver of the Sienna bus was on high speed when he suddenly lost control of it due to brake failure.
A trending video which confirmed the report showed two female dead bodies and a male, including some survivors on the ground.
The President-General of Abagana community, Engr. Ben Okongwu, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, revealed that one of the three persons killed was an under-aged child whose identify has not been revealed.
However, when contacted, the Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, RC Margaret Onabe, said she was not aware of the incident but promised to get back to Blueprint with details.
