The Speaker of the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Tuesday, lamented the flood that affected parts of Sabon Gari and Zaria local government areas of Kaduna state which he described as unfortunate.
This was contained in a statement by his media aid, Mal Musa Abdullahi Krishi, and made available to journalists on Tuesday.
The statement reads: “The flood occurred around Kogin Mata and Tudun Muntsira, Chikaji, Magume Kwarin Dangoma, Maje Road areas of Sabon Gari and Zaria local government areas on Monday after torrential rainfall. It destroyed property and rendered many residents homeless.
“This unfortunate incident happened at a time when people were making efforts to make ends meet.”
He called for an urgent intervention to provide succour to the victims, urging them to stay calm while the government makes efforts to address their plight.
Specifically, the speaker called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to come to the aid of the flood victims at this critical time.
Speaker Abbas equally urged residents of the affected areas and adjoining places to take precautionary measures and heed to advisory from relevant authorities on flood.
He also called for concerted efforts to address the menace of flooding in the country.
