The Edo state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, Wednesday dismissed the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council’s allegation of his plot to rig the September 21 governorship election, using personnel of vigilantes.
Obaseki said the APC engaged in spurious claim, having realised that they have lost favour with the people and cannot win in a free and fair contest.
He also stated that the APC has been boasting of federal might since the start of the campaigns, harassing and intimidating innocent citizens of the state and members of the opposition.
In a statement issued by his special adviser on Media Projects, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, the governor said: “It is rather laughable and interesting that the very thing the APC is already doing is what they are claiming that other persons are doing.”
The governor wondered why the APC in Edo state has been relentless in its campaign of calumny against the state’s Security and Vigilante Network in the run-up to the gubernatorial elections.
He said the intelligence gathering of the scheme and their role in combating crime and criminality, especially in the grassroots, have been confirmed by the security agencies in the state.
Obaseki called on the authorities to place their eyes on the director of APC and its campaign media director, Prince Kassim Afegbua, “because what they are accusing others of is exactly what they are planning to do themselves.”
