The National Assembly has shifted resumption date again over planned usage of main chambers as against temporary ones being used for plenary since September, 2022.
Both Senate and House of Representatives had penultimate week, postponed their resumption date from April 16 , 2024 to April 23, 2024, citing the need for holding plenary at the main chambers as reason for the postponement.
The chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon Akin Rotimi Jr., in the first postponement of resumption said: “This postponement is necessary to accommodate the completion of renovations to the main chamber of the House of Representatives to ensure its readiness for plenary sessions, henceforth.”
Giving similar reason in the latest postponement announced Thursday in Abuja , the Clerk of the Senate , Barrister Chinedu Akubueze, said: ” Distinguished Senators are hereby, respectfully informed that resumption of plenary, which was earlier postponed to Tuesday 23rd April 2024, has further been postponed to Tuesday 30th April, 2024 at 11 am.
“Kindly note that the plenary sitting would be held at the main Chamber of the Senate.
“All inconveniences this postponement may cause Distinguished Senators are highly regretted, please.”
The site engineer of Visible Construction Company handling renovation work on the two chambers, Tajudeen Olanipekun , had early last month informed journalists covering the Senate that the two main chambers would be ready for use by both the Senate and the House of Representatives in April this year.
