Ronaldo, Drogba, Eto’o, others set to storm Nigeria

The likes of Christiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o , Abedi Pele and several other football legends will soon visit Nigeria to trade tackle with stars like Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Mikel Obi to create awareness about the dreaded cancer disease.

This was disclosed Thursday afternoon when inaugurating the committee to organise the charity/exhibition match in the country.

Inaugurating the committee at the National Institute For Cancer Research And Treatment (NICRAT) at their corporate headquarters at Wuse 2, Honourable Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate emphasize on the importance of prudency, transparency and accountability in the course of executing the initiative.

The minister who was represented by the NICRAT director general, Professor Usman Malami Aliyu outlines the terms of reference for the committee which includes the following,  “develop and implement a comprehensive action plan for the World Soccer Legends against cancer initiative, outlining objectives ,strategies and key activities.

“Promote awareness and advocacy around cancer prevention ,detection, treatment and leveraging the platform of World Soccer Legends to reach diverse audiences worldwide”

Responding on  behalf of the committee, Alhaji Mainasara Illo, who spoke on behalf of Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye the chairman of the committee disclosed that the committee will do all within its power to do a great job. “We’re proud to offer our services to this committee who comprises of eminent and people of integrity.

“The fight against cancer is for all of us. We owe it a duty to help and contribute to the eradication of the menace in our society. I’m happy to lend helping hand to fight the scourge that’s ravaging the nation” Illo said.

Other members of the committee include, former director general National Sports Commission(NSC) Alhaji Alhassan Yakmut, former international Henry Amike, the National Co-ordinator, Jacob Onu and several others.
