DA leaders have taken a strong stand in saving South Africa’s metros as the first base to saving the country.
This was at the start of their Rescue South Africa Tour at Eersterust Civic Centre, Tshwane on April 11.
The meeting was well-attended by Tshwane councillors and student leaders, representing the youth wing of the DA.
Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink took to the stage first and received an overwhelming welcome from the crowd.
Brink welcomed the leaders, saying if everything runs efficiently and well in Tshwane, the rest of the country could follow easier.
“If the capital city works, the rest of South Africa also works,” said Brink.
He said Tshwane DA is behind the party’s policy of participating in the elections as part of a multi-party charter as there has already been a huge improvement in Tshwane with political parties working together in the coalition government.
“By uniting as the opposition in one strong bloc, we can achieve more. With a DA premier we can also speed up the rescue of the city, province and country,” Brink said.
He said he feels Tshwane is a perfect place for the DA to start and finish its rescue campaign.
“On May 29, we are going to reshape the politics of the country,” said Brink.
Leaders of 11 political parties have put aside their differences and come together in the past year to contest the election in the charter in the interest of South Africa.
DA premier candidate and former Tshwane mayor Solly Msimanga was raucously welcomed by party supporters.
Msimanga referred to problems and challenges that Tshwane has experienced like the neglect at the Rooiwal waste treatment works and how communities such as Hammanskraal had to carry the brunt of the government not giving Tshwane’ problems attention.
“We said fix the problem and they did not. People, we need to rescue Tshwane and Gauteng,” said Msimanga.
