Everyone was happy for Fabio Jakobsen in the 2022 Tour de France after recovering from an injury sustained in a horrific crash. The sprint race of the second stage was won by him.

Few believed that Fabio Jakobsen would ever compete at the level of a world-class athlete again after his horrific injury at the 2020 Tour of Poland. But against all odds, the rider took part in the Tour de France for the first time in 2022.

The driver not only took part in the competition, but also won the sprint finish of the second stage. He had never won the Tour de France before.

Jakobsen once believed he would die or never race again. He was a fighter though, and boy could he fight.

In 2020, Fabio Jakobsen experienced a terrible accident.

Also, the mishap happened during the Tour of Poland. As one of the first events after the pandemic, Jakobsen really wanted to cycle again. So he made the decision to take part in the trip to Poland.

On the second day of the stage finish in Katowice, Fabio Jakobsen and Dylan Groenewegen faced each other. When he went off course and collided with Jakobsen’s bike, both were traveling at 80 kilometers per hour.

The Dutch cyclist collided with the crash barriers, causing them to collapse. He later fell on a UCI commissioner, injuring both of them. The inspector shattered numerous ribs, but the rider might have sustained worse injuries if he hadn’t been there.

He had severe brain injuries and was later kept in an induced coma. Wounds included cuts to the face, a broken thumb, an injured shoulder, damage to the main nerves that supply the vocal cords, a contused lung, hairline fractures to the skull, a broken palate, loss of ten teeth, lower jawbones and parts of the upper jaw.

The rider, entering the competition for the first time, attempted to win the sprint finish in Stage 2. Also, on stage 17, his teammates encouraged him to finish the climb because he made it in the allotted time. However, he briefly lost consciousness after crossing the finish line.

Jakobsen also put his ghosts from the past to rest by making amends with Dylan Groenewegen. He frequently attributed Dylan’s accident in 2020 to Dylan, but he recently offered an apology.
