Kingston High School is looking for a new varsity football coach again.
After spending less than a month on the job, Ron Earp informed Buccaneers athletic director Ed Call on Monday that he needed to resign due to family obligations.
“Unfortunately (he) had a death in his family and has returned home to take care of family,” Call said.
Earp could not be immediately be reached for comment.
Last month, the Buccaneers selected Earp to fill their vacant head coaching position. It was the first football coaching job for the 53-year-old, who previously resided in the Sacramento area. Kingston’s former head coach Billy Russo resigned in January after three seasons leading the program.
With spring football practice underway, the timing of Earp’s resignation isn’t optimal. Official preseason practice for the 2023 fall season begins in mid-August. Kingston’s first game is schedule for Sept. 1 at home against East Jefferson.
“We will push through this,” said Call, who noted that Kingston has four assistant football coaches in place who will collaborate and help run team activities until a new head coach can be found. “I’ve met with them and the players. All are shaken, but want to build a foundation and move forward.”
