IPL 2024: “When MS Dhoni Was Batting, The Entire Crowd Turned Yellow And That Motivated Me To Do Well”

Delhi Capitals (DC) had a forgettable season and finished in 9th position on the points table with 10 points from 14 matches. Chetan Sakariya wasn’t given enough matches by DC’s management. Chetan Sakariya took 3 wickets from 2 matches and was a tad expensive.

DC’s management will have to make a tough decision as David Warner couldn’t dictate the terms and he didn’t get the required support from the deadly batter Prithvi Shaw didn’t do any good to the team.

A lot of experts and commentators raised questions about the batting position of Axar Patel. The left-handed batter was the pick of the batters but making him a lower middle order batter didn’t help the team much.

I decided I would not let MS Dhoni score even a single boundary – Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya was having an interaction with Sportskeeda and recalled his contest with MS Dhoni during DC vs CSK clash. Chetan Sakariya stated that he used all the variations and made sure that he doesn’t concede a boundary in the 20th over of the math and he did that.

“When Mahi bhai was batting, the entire crowd turned yellow and that motivated me to do well. I decided I would not let him score even a single boundary off my bowling,” said Chetan Sakariya.

I tried all the variations I could and ensured I wasn’t hit for a boundary by him. The kind of support Mahi bhai get everywhere he goes is a testament to his aura and what he has achieved.” he stated.

I thrive bowling on slow wickets- Chetan Sakariya

Chetan Sakariya revealed how he added variations in his bowling and gave the credit to Mohit Sharma and said that he learnt cutters from Jaydev Unadkat. Chetan Sakariya though wanted to increase his speed by at least 5 km/hr to outclass the batter.

“I think I thrive bowling on slow wickets. We had seven games in Delhi and also games in Chennai and Lucknow with slow pitches. When I was new, I just had a swing. But I remember I worked on my variations by looking at Mohit bhai (Mohit Sharma) who had done well for CSK,” he added.

“I also learned a lot about cutters from Jaydev bhai. I feel I learn quickly and grasp well what senior players tell me. I would like to add more skills to my bowling and I want to be at least 5 kmph quicker. I want to ensure that I don’t lose control while doing these changes and I am motivated to ensure I achieve these goals soon,” he added.
