Baton Rouge, LA (KPLC) – It was a great day for LSU fans in Baton Rouge as thousands of people turned out to watch the Tigers celebrate their national championship.
7Sports asked some devoted Lake Charles fans what the day means to them.
“Hey everyone at Lake Charles, this is amazing, I’m so proud of these young ladies and I’m so proud of our team and LSU,” said Ann Rasmussen of Lake Charles. “Baton Rouge, that’s the place for tonight.”
“We love Southwest Louisiana Cajuns and it’s a family atmosphere no matter what and that’s what we live for,” said Vicky Loflin of Southwest Louisiana. “Cajuns from Southwest Louisiana, that’s part of it, we just love being here and love supporting our Lady Tigers.”
The students were in full swing as they demonstrated just how special the school’s first basketball championship is.
“We’re really not used to it, this is our first basketball championship, it’s really something new for us,” said LSU sophomore Jacob Hall. “We didn’t expect that this year, but we’re glad it happened.”
“Everything is ahead of schedule right now, we didn’t expect this to happen as Kim Mulkey’s sophomore year, but here we have a save for a national championship now,” said LSU sophomore Myles Diaz.
7Sports needed to get a basketball player’s perspective, so what’s better than a former All-SEC Tiger?
“I think it’s amazing, it’s a one-time deal, hopefully we keep it going, but all the excitement and energy is unique,” said former LSU men’s basketball player Torris Bright. “And I just take my hat off to the players and coaches and just try to carry on the tradition.”
The Lady Tigers secured their first championship by beating Iowa.
