The federal government has taken a significant step towards improving its air defence capabilities with the acquisition of RPA-200MC mobile 3D primary radars.
It is learnt that the Ministry of Aviation spearheaded the procurement of the nine primary radars, the first of which arrived in the country on Friday night.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, led a team of top officials from the ministry to receive the equipment.
The radar system, developed in Argentina, is a derivative of the long-range version RPA-2403D mid-range air defense mobile radar.
The RPA-200MC radar is designed to detect both friendly and hostile aircraft in Nigerian airspace promptly. Its advanced features enable it to detect low-speed and low-altitude targets, making it ideal for use in national defense, border control, and civil air traffic control.
The primary 3D radar supplied by INVAP is the first of its kind to be exported from Argentina to any African country, marking a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations.
