LSU’s Angel Reese Says She Will Visit The White House After All

Louisiana State University (LSU) star forward Angel Reese said Friday that she will go to the White House to celebrate her team’s championship win after calling First Lady Jill Biden because she originally suggested that the runners-up would also be invited.

Reese told ESPN that she will be visiting the White House after winning the NCAA Division I women’s basketball championship game because her team wants to go and she is a team player and captain.

“In the beginning we were injured. It was emotional because we know how hard we’ve worked for everything all year,” Reese told SportsCenter.

“You never have that experience,” she added, referring to the White House visit. “And I know my team probably definitely wants to go and my coaches support that, so I’m going to do what’s best for the team and we’ve decided we’re going to go.”

Reese said in a podcast released Tuesday that she would visit the Obamas instead of going to the White House and that she does not accept Biden’s apology. The first lady suggested the Iowa Hawkeyes should also be invited to the White House while speaking at an event in Denver on Monday.

After receiving criticism of her proposal, Biden’s office rejected her proposal the next day. However, Reese said on the podcast that the first lady’s comment about inviting both teams bothers her, and asked if LSU would have been invited had they lost.

Additionally, Reese said on the podcast that her team refused to meet with the first lady before the championship game and noted her dissatisfaction that her husband, President Biden, chose LSU to play in the second round of the tournament losing as he had his wife’s alma mater, University of Villanova, won the tournament.

LSU defeated Iowa 102-85 on Sunday, giving the school its first national championship in either its men’s or women’s basketball programs.
