All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Madison Parish (KTVE/KARD) — On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, inspectors from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Livestock Brand Commission arrested 44-year-old Joseph Ryan Elliott of Oak Grove, Louisiana for stealing over US$5,000 -dollars . According to officials, the arrest was the result of a warrant issued by the Morehouse Township in connection with an investigation by the Livestock Brand Commission.

An investigation by the LDAF’s Livestock Brand Commission found that in October 2022, Elliott allegedly received over 1,207 bushels of #1 yellow soybeans from a producer to ship to a grain elevator in the Morehouse community. According to a press release, Elliott allegedly sold the soybeans on his behalf and kept the monies from the sale after arriving at the grain elevator.

Officials confirmed Elliott was booked into Morehouse Parish Jail.

In addition to investigating cattle theft, the LDAF Livestock Brand Commission is also responsible for investigating all other agricultural crimes in Louisiana, including theft of farm equipment, or in this case, crops. Cattle Mark officers are assigned by the Louisiana State Police to perform their duties. As such, they are an important part of the process of ensuring that perpetrators of agricultural theft are held accountable for their crimes.
