Angel Reese scored 34 points to lead LSU 73-50 past Hawaii in a first round game of the NCAA Women’s Tournament today at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.
Reese, who leads the nation with 29 double-doubles, also had 15 rebounds.
Daejah Phillips and Kallin Spiller led the Wahine with 13 points each and Lily Wahinekapu added 11 as Hawaii lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament for the second straight season.
Flau’jae Johnson added 10 points for LSU.
14th seed Wahine (18-15) represented the Big West after winning his second consecutive conference tournament. The third-placed Tigers (28-2) take on Michigan on Sunday.

Wahinekapu scored nine of their first-half points. Their 3-pointer gave Hawaii an early lead, but LSU put on a 12-0 run, giving the hosts an 18-7 lead in the first quarter.
UH settled down after eight first-half turnovers to close at 29-22 on Meilani McBee’s 3-pointer with 2:33 left. But the Tigers scored six straight goals to extend the lead to 35-22 at halftime, behind Reese’s 14 points and seven rebounds before the break.
Another McBee bomb opened the scoring in the second half, but LSU maintained control and led 48-33 into the fourth quarter.
The Tigers extended the lead to 58-35 early in the final period to end the game.
