On Thursday, Eliza Romualdez-Valtos, Imelda’s niece, used social media to end rumors surrounding the 93-year-old’s passing.

In a Facebook post, Romualdez-Valtos wrote, “Still strong and kicking,” along with a hashtag denouncing false news. She also uploaded a previous image of the matriarch with hearts all over it.

Senator Imee Marcos, Imelda’s daughter, also refuted the rumors. She texted reporters, saying, “Whoever originated the story is awful.

Imelda is the “supreme politician in the family,” according to Marcos Jr. As rumors about Imelda Marcos’ alleged demise spread on Twitter, the phrase “Imelda Marcos” rose to the seventh position in the Philippines.

Early Life of Imelda Marcos

Visitation by Imelda Remedios Romuáldez was born on July 2, 1929, before dawn in San Miguel, Manila.

Vicente Orestes Romuldez, a lawyer, and Remedios Trinidad, his second wife, were her parents. Imelda is Remedios’ firstborn and the sixth of Vicente’s eleven children.

Imelda was raised in an affluent Catholic family in the province of Leyte before being born into the political dynasty of the Romualdez family.

The day following her birth, she was christened in the adjacent San Miguel Church.

Imelda’s mother, Doa Trinidad Lopez de Romualdez, her uncle Norberto Romualdez, a Supreme Court Associate Justice, and her younger brother Benjamin “Kokoy” Romualdez, a governor of Leyte, who later served as an ambassador under Ferdinand Marcos, are notable family members.

The Romualdezes were well off when she was born. Imelda’s family’s financial situation started to deteriorate around 1932.

Remedios worked for the Asilo de San Vicente de Paul nuns while Imelda’s parents were apart.

Even though Vicente and Remedios eventually made amends, she and her children—including Imelda—moved into their home’s garage to end the tension.
