Welcome to Good Burger, home to the Good Burger, can I take your orrrrrder? Dexter and Ed are ready to serve up some burgers, fries and shakes, as Good Burger 2 has officially been confirmed.
A sequel to Good Burger may seem like an order that took too long to arrive at the window, but Good Burger 2 should be able to hit that nostalgia wave just right. And if the Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell reunion at last year’s Emmy Awards (which Thompson hosted) is any indication, there should be solid interest in the project. There, too, is a pretty loyal cult following of the movie, which began as a skit on the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That.
Certainly Ken & Kel are looking forward to it. On Good Burger 2, Thompson said, “I can’t believe it’s been a little over 25 years since great customer service was born at Good Burger! Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud and now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal! Love performing with my brother Kel and can’t wait to show the fans what these characters have been up to since we last saw them.” In a separate statement, Mitchell touched on the aforementioned nostalgia, saying, “Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans, and it’s such a beautiful blessing to still be doing it after all these years. It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.”
The official plot, as per Paramount and Nickelodeon: “In Good Burger 2, Dexter Reed is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.”
The first Good Burger was released in 1997 and would go on to nearly triple its budget at the box office.
Production on Good Burger 2 will begin in May. No official release date has been set, but it is expected to be released on Paramount+ sometime this year.
