Tatiana Maslany and Michael Schwartz’s disco horror film screens at the Overlook Film Festival.
Snatched is Emmy-winning She-Hulk’s first screen role since he debuted as a superhero lawyer for Marvel last summer. She is currently rehearsing for Gray House opposite Laurie Metcalf in the Broadway play, which premieres April 29 at the Lyceum Theatre.
From award-winning writer/director Michael Schwartz (Sunday In The Park With George, Company), Snatched premiered on Hulu last October. The film is one of twenty-one new short-form installments in the third season of Bite Size Halloween, the annual series of genre films from exciting new filmmakers from around the world.
The Snatched team includes producer Nilou Safinya (Gotham Award winner), executive producer Valerie Steinberg (Sundance winner Hair Wolf, Camera d’Or winner War Pony at Cannes), and executive producers David Worthen, Jenna Cavelle and Arbi Pedrossian von 20th Digital Studio.
“I call Snatched ‘disco horror.’ It was made for a full audience, seeing the biggest possible screen,” says writer/director Michael Schwartz. “I am grateful to 20th Digital Studio for supporting our festival run and I look forward to touring with members of our cast and crew to screen the film at festivals around the world.”
Adds producer Nilou Safinya, “Snatched is a rollercoaster ride of a movie. We’ve seen firsthand how it inspires big thrills, outrageous laughter, and meaningful conversation, leading us to question what actions make us the most powerful allies. We can’t wait for viewers around the world to experience this unique and wild story on the big screen.”
Legendary film producer and former President of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Sid Ganis, was so excited about the script that he and his wife Nancy not only came on board as consulting producers, but also appeared in the film as alien neighbors. “Michael Schwartz is one of the most exciting emerging filmmakers out there,” says Sid. “Snatched is both wild and deeply poignant. We got involved because we want to help bring the world back into balance. Snatched is so out of whack it’s just right for us! Sid is trustee of the new Academy Museum in Los Angeles.
Snatched’s live festival run begins with the Overlook Film Festival, one of the world’s premier horror festivals, taking place live in New Orleans from March 30th to April 2nd. Tickets can be purchased at OverlookFilmFest.com. Snatched will be screened at other film festivals this summer, including Cinequest’s Oscar Qualifying Festival, taking place August 11-20 in Silicon Valley.
