Cillian Murphy earns his first BAFTA nomination for Peaky Blinders

Cillian Murphy has received his first nomination at BAFTA for his role as Tommy Shelby in Peaky Blinders.

Cillian Murphy will compete in the Leading Actor category at the BAFTAs this year.

Moreover, he was nominated for his performance as the leader of the Peaky Blinders clan, Tommy Shelby. 

Murphy will finally receive recognition for his work in all six seasons of the critically acclaimed crime drama. The period TV drama aired its final episode in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Gary Oldman is another first-timer who is competing for the Leading Actor award alongside Murphy.

Oldman is nominated for his role as spy Jackson Lamb in the Apple TV+ show titled Slow Horses.

Meanwhile, other nominees in the Best Actor category include Ben Whishaw for This Is Going To Hurt and Martin Freeman for The Responder. 

Chaske Spencer is nominated for his performance in The English while Taron Egerton earns his nomination for Black Bird.

Additionally, the Mission Anthropoid actor was also nominated for the Rising Star prize at the Film Awards back in 2007.

Meanwhile, rumors are going around that a movie adaption of Peaky Blinders is possibly in the work. But the show’s actor Daryl McCormack has denied having any knowledge about the project.

He simply said, ‘It’s something I haven’t actually heard about. I’ve been asked multiple times but I’ve yet to hear any news with regards to that.’

Cillian Murphy is all set to star in Small Things Like These

Cillian Murphy is gearing up to headline in the upcoming film titled, ‘Small Things Like Thess.’ The movie will be an official adaptation of Claire Keegan’s acclaimed novel of the same name.

Besides that, Murphy will serve as the producer for the film alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity.

The Inception actor shared his excitement for the project while talking recently with Deadline.

He said, ‘I’m honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Claire Keegan’s magnificent novel to the screen.’

Subsequently, he added, ‘We have gathered together a phenomenal team of creatives to make this film, and found exceptional partners in AE, a studio led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck — actors and filmmakers I have admired for many years.’

Murphy will also feature in director Christopher Nolan’s next ‘Oppenheimer.’ It is scheduled to hit the theatres on 21st July 2023.
