Louisiana (KLFY)— The Attorney General’s Office is trying to give Louisiana parents some peace of mind by providing free ID kits for children.
A child goes missing every 40 seconds in the United States.
The Attorney General’s Office has partnered with the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association to reduce the number of cases by providing child ID cards to parents of children from kindergarten through fifth grade.

“These kits are basically designed for parents to work with their children, where they identify the children,” said AG Jeff Landry.
“They put all sorts of markers in the kit.”
Each kit includes an inkless fingerprint kit, a DNA sample collection, physical identification information such as scars or birthmarks, and a recent photograph of the child.
“We’ve funded enough kits to basically have (one) for every kid from kindergarten through fifth grade,” Landry said.
The information, he said, is not put into a database, but rather the kits are kept by each child’s parents for safekeeping in the event of an emergency such as a kidnapping or disappearance.
“90 percent of the questions law enforcement will ask you about your child if something like this happens are in this kit. We don’t want parents to have to think about these things. We want this information so we can go out and safely locate a child if they go missing and bring them back to their parents.”
