LAFAYETTE, LA— Hunter Bott is in the top 20 and the UTSA men’s golf team is about 10th after the opening day of the Louisiana Classics, which was teeed off Monday at Oakbourne Country Club (par 71/6,898 yards).
Bott has a share of 16th place after carding a 5-over-par 147, and the Roadrunners are stuck with New Orleans in 10th place on the team score through 36 of the 54 scheduled holes.
Bott opened the tournament on Monday morning with an even scorecard. The Montgomery, Texas senior posted birdies on the 459-yard par-4 fifth and the 195-yard par-3 15. Hole en route to a 71 to secure second place after the first round. In the afternoon, with three more birdies, he settled on a 76 and is one of the top 10 in the 84-man field.
David Harrison is 38th after opening day with 11 to 153. The senior from Trophy Club, Texas, scored a 75 in the first round and then registered a 78 in the afternoon.
Brayden Bare and Christian Fanfelle are two shots behind in a tie for 54th place. Each player posted a 76-79-155, with Fanfelle recording four birdies for the day, including three in the opening round, and Bare recording all three of his birdies in round two.
Jack Wehman rounds out the UTSA lineup at No. 65 (80-77-157).
UTSA turned in rounds of 298 and 310 and sits at 608, one shot behind Michigan and three ahead of New Mexico State and SMU, with 18 holes remaining.
No. 15 Texas A&M leads the 14-team field 11 to 579, followed by Sam Houston (+16), No. 32 Little Rock (+19), No. 47 LSU (+23) and host Louisiana (+25 ). ) among the top five.
There is a three-way tie for the individual lead at 1 in 143 between Louisiana’s Eli Ortego, Little Rock’s Anton Albers and New Orleans’ Kyle Bennett.
The final round kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
