Fans eagerly wait the debut of Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to have the longest season of any Marvel show to date with a whopping 18 episodes. Born Again star Vincent D’Onofrio seems to have accidentally confirmed that this won’t be the only season fans will get.
The first season of Daredevil: Born Again has only just started filming. Despite this, speculation has been inflamed about the future of D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. D’Onofrio is seemingly set to return as a key figure in the Echo series following his debut in the Hawkeye show. When asked about these future plans for the character, D’Onofrio tried to put emphasis on the fans, but ended up tipping his hand about a potential second season for the show:
“I think it’s something that people are not going to expect. But, always with these Marvel old comic stories that are being revisited and reinvented by us actors, and the writers, the main thing is to answer the fans,” D’Onofrio told Newsweek. “…It’s definitely an original way to look at this, and it’s really deep, really emotional. And, by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It’s really quite cool to be doing it.”
This isn’t the first time that plans for a second season of Daredevil: Born Again
have been said to be in the works. Due to the length of the 18 episode season, a number of rumors imply that the show could be split into two or three different runs, which could be what D’Onofrio is referring to by a “second season”, especially as he implies that he already knows what those pay-offs are. However, it could simply mean that Marvel is much further ahead on their planning than many had first believed. Only time will tell how much content we’ll see from Daredevil in the future, but one thing is clear: it’s an amazing time to be a fan of the Man Without Fear.
What to expect from the new Daredevil series
Little is known of Daredevil: Born Again, with plot details being kept under wraps. Jon Bernthal, Sandrine Holt, Margarita Levieva, Michael Gandolfini, Nikki M. James and Michael Gaston are set to appear in the series opposite Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio. Matt Corman and Chris Ord are writing and executive producing for Marvel.
Unfortunately for fans of Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page, it has been confirmed that neither character will be returning for Daredevil: Born Again. The news has been met with disappointment from fans, as both characters played significant roles in the original Netflix series. However, it’s important to remember that the series is still in its early stages, and there’s always a chance that the characters could make a surprise appearance in future seasons.
