Anderson and Thomson lead Wolverines to ninth place in the Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE, La. — With top 30 placements from Junior Will Anderson and second graders Hunter ThomsonThe University of Michigan men’s golf team, totaled 907 54-hole teams and finished ninth at the Louisiana Classics held at Oakbourne Country Club on Tuesday (March 14).

In Monday’s opening game, UM used a pair of Anderson and Redshirt-Junior 73s Ben Hoagland to carve a 295 on the board and put the Wolverines in the top three after the first 18 holes. Heading straight into Round 2, Anderson and Thomson led with rounds of 75 while the Wolverines followed with a tally of 312 to end the day in ninth place with a total of 607 teams.

In the final junior Jew Kim led UM to a 300 finish after firing his one-over-72 as a sophomore Yuqi Liu finished on a 75. Maize and Blue stayed in ninth place with 907 points.

For the sixth time in nine events, Anderson and Thomson finished the top two Wolverines. Anderson had his sixth top-25 finish of the season and finished 25th with 225 (73-75-77). Thomson was just a shot behind with his 226 (75-75-76) when he finished 28th. With his final round of 72, Kim rounded out the top three Wolverines to finish 35th with 228 (77-79-72).

Maize and Blue are out of competition for almost a month as they prepare for the end of the school year and the rest of UM’s spring schedule. Michigan next travels to Columbia, Mo., Sunday and Monday (April 10-11) for the Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Missouri. The two day, 54 hole event is to be played at the Club of Old Hawthorne.
