A recent multidisciplinary operation in Atteridgeville has led to the arrest of 347 suspects for various crimes.
“The operations included high visibility patrols in crime hotspots, compliance inspections and raiding of illegal liquor outlets,” said acting communication coordinator, Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk.
Tshwane detective teams arrested 311 suspects for various crimes including four for murder, 14 for armed robbery, 14 for rape and 126 for gender-based violence (GBV).
The operation started on Wednesday evening and ended in the early hours of Thursday under the command of the Tshwane commissioner, Major-General Azwinndini Nengovhela.
Seven liquor outlets were inspected which resulted in three being closed down for being in contravention of the Liquor Act and the confiscation of 675 000ml of liquor that will be destroyed.
Twenty-eight undocumented immigrants were detained, and 65 Aarto fines to the value of R64 750 issued.
“One person was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, while another found himself behind bars for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle. Three suspects were arrested for possession of counterfeit cigarettes and another three for dealing in dagga,” Van Dyk continued.
A total of 896 people and 589 vehicles were searched during this operation.
Nengovhela commended and thanked all personnel from the different law enforcement agencies who participated in the operation and the successes achieved.
Earlier last month, 726 people were arrested during several Tshwane police multidisciplinary operations in one weekend.
Other law-enforcement entities involved in that effort included the departments of community safety, correctional services, home affairs and labour, Tracker, Gauteng traffic department, TMPD and members of SAPS units and stations in the Tshwane policing area.
Authorities encouraged residents and business owners to adhere to local by-laws as they intended to continue operations in the area.
