VP, Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso, others parley to strengthen electoral process
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration is not about party but about changing the lives of Nigerians.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, 2023 presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso respectively and others will be rubbing minds on the need to strengthen the electoral process in the country.
Wike stated this while inaugurating the five-kilometredualisedKuje township road, from Tipper Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat, in Kuje Area Council, Abuja.
He explained that the execution of various people-oriented projects across the six area councils was in fulfilment of Tinubu’s pre-election promise to Abuja residents.
“You have fulfilled your part. The covenant the President has entered with you was that you should vote for him. Having voted for him, he is now coming to fulfil part of his agreement.
“We know we have not got to the point you all want, but by the grace of God, we will get there,” the minister said.
Wike, who could not hide his excitement over the display of joy by the people of Kuje, stressed that the essence of governance was to make people happy.
“Since you are happy, then we are happy; when you are not happy, we cannot be happy,” he added.
ALSO expected at the parley scheduled for next Monday and Tuesday, in Abuja, are the Vice President, KashimShettima; former Head of State, Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar; presidential candidate of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mahamudu Bawumia, who lost to John Mahama of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the recent general election.
The national chairmen of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III; leading figures of the opposition parties like Julius Abure and Dr Pat Utomi; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, scores of top government functionaries, academics and pro-democracy activists in the country are also expected at the parley.
The Executive Director of the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD), OtiveIgbuzor, at a press conference in Abuja, yesterday, disclosed that the conference is being organised by five collaborating organisations comprising the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WfD) Peering Advocacy and Advancement Centre in Africa (PAACA) and National Peace Committee.
He explained that the goal was to ignite a discussion to tackle the pressing challenges that threaten the foundation of democracy in the country.
As conveners, he said they were committed to addressing the complexities and setbacks Nigeria’s democratic system faces, to find actionable solutions that would restore and strengthen national governance.
