The Yobe State Government has ordered the immediate temporary closure of Katarko, Kukareta, and Buni Yadi weekly markets to support ongoing military operations against insurgents.

Governor Mai Mala Buni’s Security Adviser, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), stated that this is a strategic move to consolidate recent counterterrorism gains along those axis of Yobe east.

“This necessary measure prioritizes public safety despite potential inconveniences,” Abdulsalam explained, assuring residents that operations will be accelerated to minimize economic disruption.

The government pledged to reopen the markets once security conditions improve and appealed for community cooperation.

The closure comes days after an improvised explosive device (IED) was reportedly planted along the Katarko-Goniri road, killing four persons and injuring 21 others.
