Olusegun Adeyemo

Hundreds of commuters plying the ever busy Sango-Eleyele Road in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, are currently stranded, The Journal Correspondent reports.

Our correspondent reports that the commuters are stranded as a result of a protest embarked upon by students of the Polytechnic Ibadan.

Journal Nigeria gathered that the students embarked upon the protest as a result of the recent announcement made by Governor Seyi Makinde of the state to rename the institution.

Makinde had a few days ago renamed The Polytechnic Ibadan to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan.

The late Olunloyo was the first Ibadan person to serve as the governor of old Oyo State and the first Rector of the institution

He served between October and December 1983.

This move by the governor has met widespread criticism by students and alumni of the institution as well as some residents of Ibadan.
