Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, expressed solidarity with Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, following last month’s devastating floods in Mokwa Local Government Area.

During a visit to the Government House in Minna on Tuesday, Zulum pledged N300 million in aid to support the affected communities. He stated that the donation was meant to assist Niger State’s efforts in managing the disaster’s aftermath.

Zulum also conveyed the condolences of Borno State’s residents, acknowledging the flood’s severe impact, which resulted in loss of lives, property damage, and disrupted livelihoods. He called for collaborative action among subnational governments to tackle climate change-related challenges.

In response, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago thanked Zulum for the timely gesture, describing it as an act of goodwill. He highlighted the shared ties between Niger and Borno States and praised Zulum’s dedication and proactive leadership. Bago assured that the funds would be used appropriately and mentioned ongoing awareness campaigns to discourage settlement in flood-prone areas.

Zulum was accompanied by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, House of Representatives members Engr. Bukar Talba and Hon. Abdulkadiri Rahis, as well as Borno State House of Assembly Deputy Speaker Engr. Abdullahi Askira.

In a related visit, Zulum condoled with the Adamawa State government over the passing of Professor Jibril Aminu, a former senator and academic, whom he described as a proud son of Borno. He recognized Aminu’s contributions to education in Nigeria.

Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri thanked the delegation, including businessman Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, and noted that Aminu’s death was a national loss.
