Political landscape shifts in Ogun as PDP, APM leaders join APC

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Monday, received key members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, in what observers describe as a significant political shift in the state.

The delegation was led by Dr. Sikirulai Ogundele, a former PDP chairman in Ogun State, and Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, a former member of the House of Representatives and 2019 APM gubernatorial candidate.

Other prominent members included Dr. Ekelojumati, Hon. Olowo Fuja, and several influential grassroots mobilizers from various local government areas across the state.

The closed-door meeting was described as cordial and strategic, signalling a potential reconfiguration of the political landscape ahead of upcoming elections.

Governor Abiodun expressed appreciation for the delegation’s commitment to unity, stating that the APC remains committed to inclusive governance and sustainable development.

“This is not merely a political manoeuvre; it is a patriotic decision aimed at consolidating progress, promoting stability, and building a future of shared prosperity for our people,” the governor said.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Dr. Ogundele praised Governor Abiodun’s open-door leadership style and ongoing development strides across the state. He affirmed that the visit marked a crucial step toward their formal alignment with the APC.

Hon. Akinlade echoed the sentiment, affirming the group’s intention to contribute meaningfully to the ruling party’s vision and the continued growth and peace of Ogun State.

The delegation is expected to make a formal declaration and integration into the APC in the coming weeks—a move anticipated to strengthen the party’s political base and underscore Governor Abiodun’s emerging role as a unifying figure in Nigeria’s political arena.
