The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today called on President Bola Tinubu to dedicate the remaining two years of his administration to significantly improving the welfare of Nigerians.
The appeal was made in the party’s Eid-el-Kabir message, delivered on June 6, 2025, and underscored the urgent need to address the nation’s pressing economic and security challenges.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, articulated the party’s concerns during the Eid message, urging the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government to adopt greater accountability and discipline.
He called for an end to what the PDP describes as wasteful spending, exploitation, and manipulative governance practices.
The PDP’s message began by congratulating Nigerians on the Eid celebration, encouraging them to renew their faith in the divine provision and kindness of Allah despite the country’s current difficulties. However, the party expressed deep concern over the prevailing mood of despair across the nation. It pointed to increasing insecurity, describing Nigeria as “a large killing field” where citizens face constant threats from terrorists, bandits, and armed groups.
In addition to security issues, the PDP highlighted the economic hardships affecting many Nigerians. The party blamed what it called “reckless mismanagement of national resources” by the APC administration for the country’s challenges, including the high cost of fuel, electricity tariffs, and charges on essential services.
The party urged the APC government to treat the Eid-el-Kabir festival as a moment for national renewal and healing. It called for reforms that would revive the productive sector and reduce corruption. Specifically, the PDP demanded a review of policies to lower fuel prices and electricity costs, which have a broad impact on everyday life.
Another key demand from the PDP concerned the country’s rising debt. The party criticized the APC government’s borrowing practices, which it claims often lack transparency or connection to meaningful projects. The PDP called for the immediate recovery of over N30 trillion allegedly stolen by APC leaders through fraudulent deals, especially in the oil sector.
According to the PDP, recovered funds should be redirected to infrastructure development, revitalizing economic sectors, and strengthening security agencies to combat rising violence.
In closing, the PDP urged President Tinubu to use the remainder of his term to restore public trust by demonstrating sensitivity to the welfare of Nigerians. The party linked this call to the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir, emphasizing selflessness and submission to the divine will as essential qualities for leadership.
Finally, the PDP encouraged Nigerians not to lose hope amid difficulties but to remain patriotic, support one another, and pray for divine intervention to guide the nation forward.
