Security forces from Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, eliminated two ISWAP terrorists while they were planting explosive devices along a critical Borno State highway.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the successful operation followed actionable intelligence about insurgent movements near the Katarko Goniri axis of the Trans Timbuktu corridor.

Troops intercepted the militants in a pre-dawn confrontation on Monday, engaging them in a firefight that left two terrorists dead while others escaped.

While on the operation, the troops successfully recovered 2 AK-47 rifles with a fully loaded ammunition, motorcycle, IED-making materials and Specialized tools for road-surface penetration.

“This swift and precise operation helped prevent what could have been a deadly attack on both military personnel and civilian commuters,” a security source said.

In the aftermath, the military intensified patrols and route clearance operations in the area to deter further attempts by insurgent groups.

The foiled attack highlights ongoing security challenges in Northeast Nigeria, where insurgents continue targeting major transit routes. Military sources confirm increased aerial surveillance to track fleeing militants.
