Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, officially commenced the 2025 farming season with the rollout of subsidized fertilizers to boost agricultural productivity.

The governor announced the procurement of 10,000 metric tons (200,000 bags)of NPK fertilizer, which will be sold to farmers at a reduced rate of ₦27,000 per bag down from the actual cost of ₦44,000.

This year’s allocation is more than double the quantity distributed in 2024, reflecting the state’s commitment to enhancing food security and supporting farmers, who make up over 80% of Gombe’s population.

Governor Yahaya emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, recognizing agriculture as a key driver of economic growth.

The governor directed the Ministry of Agriculture, security agencies, and civil society organizations to oversee the distribution process, ensuring fertilizers reach genuine farmers at the grassroots.

Yahaya urged mutual respect for grazing reserves and farmlands, warning traditional rulers against encroachment on cattle routes. He vowed to punish violators based on recommendations from the Farmers/Herders Dispute Resolution Committees.

Mr. Absalom Akwaras Lansibol, Acting State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, commended Yahaya’s agricultural policies, describing the fertilizer initiative as a critical step toward food security.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Barnabas Malle, applauded the governor for sustaining farmer support despite economic challenges, ensuring affordable inputs for improved yields.

Farmers were advised to utilize the inputs efficiently and heed weather forecasts for a successful farming season.
