Scores of residents in the Peace and Joy community, located in Oba Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, have been left homeless after a major flood incident triggered by relentless rainfall.
This development follows warnings issued by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMet, just two months ago, which forecast intense downpours and high wind activity across Ondo and 30 other states.
Valuable properties and farmlands estimated to be worth millions of naira were destroyed during the deluge.
A critical wooden footbridge, serving as the only access route into and out of the community, was washed away, further isolating the area and compounding the hardship faced by residents.
The flooding also impacted nearby areas, including Airport Road close to Ejioba High School, sparking concern among parents over the safety of students commuting through the affected zones.
Reports on Sunday revealed that the Ogijan River, which flows through the community, had burst its banks following three consecutive days of intense rainfall, submerging homes and farmlands.
