The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays in commemoration of Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Eid-el-Kabir, one of Islam’s most significant festivals.
This was announced on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in an official statement released on behalf of the government.
Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to all Muslims in Nigeria and across the globe, encouraging the faithful to embrace the core values of the festival—sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith—exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him).
He urged Nigerians to use the holiday period for reflection and prayer, particularly for peace, unity, and prosperity across the country. “This is a time to renew our commitment not only to our faith but also to the collective progress of our nation,” the minister said.
The statement also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to its “Renewed Hope Agenda,” emphasizing that recent reforms are aimed at putting Nigeria back on the path of sustainable development. Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence that, with collective support, the country can reclaim its status as a great and thriving nation.
As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, the government has called for unity and national solidarity, reminding citizens of the importance of shared responsibility in shaping a better future.
