Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has opened up about a painful chapter in her life involving betrayal by people she once considered close friends.
Speaking on the Iriri Mi podcast hosted by fellow actress Bimpe Akintunde, Debbie revealed that the same friends she trusted were the ones who spread damaging rumors about her marriage. According to her, they claimed her husband used “jazz” (charms) to marry her, alleging she had been hypnotized.
Looking back on the ordeal, Debbie said she has come to accept the reality of the situation and has chosen peace over bitterness. “Those I called my people… the same ones who said I was hypnotized were my friends. People I trusted. But today, I realize I have no one left. And you know what? I surrender.
Debbie emphasized that her husband is now her best friend and source of strength. She added that her son, her family, and her husband’s family are all the support system she needs.
Reflecting on the experience, she believes it was God’s way of removing people who could have derailed her destiny. “I believe God took them out of my life to protect me from setbacks and a meaningless future,” she said.
