‘Benue Killings Must Stop’– Sultan of Sokoto Declares

Iliyasu Abdullahi Bah

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has strongly denounced the ongoing violence in Benue State, stating that Nigeria can no longer endure such brutal killings.

Abubakar emphasized that the indiscriminate slaughter of innocent lives—irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political differences—must end immediately.

The crisis, which began on June 14 with deadly attacks by armed herders in Yelewata (Guma LGA), has claimed over 300 lives.

The Sultan also expressed frustration over security agencies’ failure to prevent these massacres.

His statement, released by Prof. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, Secretary-General of the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), was titled “Time to Move Beyond Grief as Benue Suffers Again.”

We must say ‘Enough is enough.’ Silence in the face of such violence only empowers those who threaten Nigeria’s peace and unity.”

“The JNI prays for divine comfort for the bereaved and urges lasting peace in Benue and across Nigeria.”

“This tragedy calls for national solidarity. We must reject division and unite to end these atrocities. Human life is sacred and must never be trivialized.”

“We stand with Benue’s government and people. No civilized society should accept such bloodshed as normal.”
