In a bid to honour its fallen personnel, the Nigerian Army has declared a three-day mourning period to honor the 17 soldiers who lost their lives in an attack on them in Kwana Dutse Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to reports, the attack on the soldiers is a recent development that has left the nation in shock where gunmen launched a coordinated assault on military bases in Niger and Kaduna states, resulting in the death of the soldiers.

A statement on its official website and social media account on X platform on Friday, says “the mourning period will run from June 25 to 27, 2025, as a mark of respect and gratitude to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the nation.”

The statement of the Nigerian Army also confirmed the death of soldiers as a result of attacks by gunmen on military bases in Niger and Kaduna states.

“During this period, all military institutions and personnel across the country will fly the Nigerian Army flag at half-mast,” the statement added.

The Nigerian Army directed all its personnel to observe the mourning period with the aim of paying tribute to the fallen soldiers as the move reflects the importance the army attaches to the lives of its personnel.
