Renowned Nigerian comedian and actor, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has officially been installed as the traditional ruler of the Umuihuocha autonomous community in Imo State.

Celebratory videos capturing the vibrant coronation ceremony quickly went viral, showing the people of Umuihuocha—dressed in rich cultural attire—welcoming their new monarch with traditional songs and dances.

Okey Bakassi stood among his kinsmen, who wore coordinated brown senator outfits and red Igbo caps, creating a regal display. The women added splashes of color with their elegant gele headwraps as they danced joyfully.

The comedian-turned-king made a grand appearance in a stunning blue traditional outfit, crowned with a royal cap and holding the symbolic staff of authority, Ofor. In his address, he pledged to promote unity, peace, and development during his reign.

Earlier, it had been reported that the veteran entertainer was selected as the traditional leader of the Umuihuocha Obohia autonomous community. With his coronation, he will now be officially addressed as His Royal Highness, Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule – OKWE II.

While little is known about his predecessor, the title “OKWE II” signifies that he is the second monarch to bear this name in the community’s history.

On April 27, Okey Bakassi confirmed the news on his social media platform, sharing a message titled “NEXT LEVEL” and expressing deep appreciation for the honor. He described the role as a calling to serve and thanked his people for their trust and support.
