The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has categorically refuted claims that the Federal Government’s Ministerial Press Briefing Sessions have been shifted from Abuja to London, reaffirming that all briefings will continue at the National Press Centre in Abuja.
Reports began circulating recently—both in traditional outlets and online channels—suggesting that future Ministerial Press Briefings would be hosted in London rather than Abuja.
Such rumours gained traction after several media platforms erroneously listed a London event among the Ministry’s upcoming engagements.
In his opening remarks at the eighth edition of the briefing session on Friday, Idris described the insinuations as “false and misleading,” revealing the Ministry’s mandate to address Nigerians and international observers directly from Abuja
He emphasized, “The only platform that the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation provided for the briefing session is right here,” dismissing suggestions of any overseas relocation
Senator Umahi, who had been falsely reported to be presenting President Tinubu’s achievements in London, personally affirmed the briefing’s location in Abuja.
Leveraging the platform, Idris also pointed to positive economic indicators, citing the National Bureau of Statistics’ April 2025 Consumer Price Index, which showed headline inflation at 23.71%—down from 24.23% in March—and a month-on-month drop from 3.90% to 1.86%.
By squashing the London relocation rumours, the Ministry reinforces its commitment to transparent, in-country communication of federal policies and achievements. Media stakeholders have been urged to verify announcements through official Ministry channels to prevent future misinformation.
