I Had To Speak To Someone — Funke Akindele Opens Up About Therapy And Breaking Down

Funke Akindele

In a candid revelation on Chude’s talk show, Funke Akindele shared the emotional burden she had silently borne and the turning point when she realized she could no longer keep it all in.

“I told myself, I can’t continue like this. You need to speak,” she said

The actress and filmmaker revealed that after losing her mother and going through intense personal struggles, she felt completely overwhelmed.

Even though she’d always believed in therapy, she never actually submitted to it.

Why? In her words, “I was always trying to be strong.”

Between societal expectations, family pressure, and personal grief, she found herself breaking down with no one to truly talk to. And even though she was suffering, she hesitated to seek professional help.

“I thought they would carry it. People would talk about me. People would know my business.”

However, when it all became too much, she finally spoke to a therapist—and it made a difference.

“Things I couldn’t tell people out there, I spoke to my therapist. And I’m better.”
