Nigerian street-hop sensation, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, is once again making headlines—this time for legal reasons. The singer has been sentenced to three months imprisonment with the option of paying a ₦30,000 fine, following a court conviction in Ogun State.
What Led to the Sentencing?
Portable was found guilty on a three-count charge that included assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. The altercation took place in March 2023 at Odogwu Bar in Oke-Osa, Ilogbo. According to reports, the artist physically attacked Inspector Hammed Moshood, leading to injuries, particularly to the officer’s nose.
The case resurfaced after Portable breached his bail conditions, leading to his re-arrest and subsequent remand. The Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State, delivered the final judgment, sentencing him to jail with an alternative of a small fine—₦30,000.
Public Reactions and Silence from Management
The development has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with many Nigerians expressing surprise at the relatively light sentencing. Others, however, pointed to the seriousness of assaulting law enforcement personnel.
So far, Portable’s management team has not released an official statement, fueling even more speculation and online buzz.
Legal Troubles Continue for the Controversial Artist
This isn’t the first time Portable has faced legal battles. In early 2024, he was embroiled in a ₦2 million bail case involving the Ogun State government. More recently, the singer was also named in a defamation lawsuit filed by legendary Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa.
