Beloved dog ‘Uber’ stolen with bakkie from Pretoria parking – reward offered

An urgent search is underway in Pretoria after a white Mazda double cab bakkie was stolen outside Monument Park Spar — with the owner’s beloved six-year-old sable German Shepherd, named Uber, inside.

The distraught 83-year-old is offering an R10,000 reward for the dog’s safe return, with no questions asked.

Candice Palmer Beukes said Uber’s owner, John van Castricum, went to Monument Park Spar on Sunday.

“Around 13:00, his white Mazda double cab bakkie was stolen — with Uber in the canopy at the back of the vehicle.

After finishing shopping, John headed to the senior parking area where he had left his vehicle. While walking back, he reached for his keys and realised they were missing from his pants pocket — likely pickpocketed.

Beukes said a heartbroken John is desperate to have Uber back.

“John is heartbroken over Uber. Uber is a Sable German Shepherd, 6 years old, with a tattoo in his ear: FV 6617, and he is also microchipped.”

She added that Uber is trained, obedient, and loves playing with a ball.

“He is not “streetwise,” and John r is extremely worried about him. A R10,000 reward is being offered for his safe return — no questions asked.”

Uber got his unique name because, as part of the breeder’s naming convention, all puppies in his litter were given names starting with the letter “U.”

Please phone Candice on 082 896 2823 if you have seen the bakkie or Uber.
